Eat To Perform: Tips from a Sport Nutritionist

Here are a few tips from our Sport Nutritionist Ali Hills. Ali is working with our team of trainers to help incorporate the good eating habits that lead athletes to train at their peak. This means maintaining health and vitality to support your body with the proper nutrient to avoid injury. She has compiled the following tips for you to keep in mind as you are progressing through your training!

Sport nutrition plays a critical role in the avoidance of injury during the training and competition phases of sport.

For injury prevention it is vital to recognize the increased micronutrient and macronutrient demands of top performing athletes.

Athletes should be familiar with and adhere to a well-balanced diet consisting of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to meet their elevated nutrition demands.

Proper sport nutrition techniques reduce the incidence of injury by prevention of fatigue thorough adequate energy intake, acceptable electrolyte balance and hydration status, appropriate protein consumption ensuring successful muscle synthesis and recovery, and supplementation of specific nutrients when applicable.

Proper nutrition strategies can reduce markers of inflammation and increase immune system functioning, ultimately evading damage to cells and tissues, and mitigating illness and injury in elite performing athletes.

Take good care and Eat To Perform!
